No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.

译文

语法

1. 两个并列分句用分号连接：No man is an island … ; every man is a piece …。分号把两个意思紧密相关的完整句子并在一起，前面否定“孤立”，后面肯定“相连”，正反对照，比用 and 更有力度。
2. 否定主语 No man = 没有任何人，相当于 Nobody / Not a single person，是对整个群体的全称否定。注意它不是“不是男人”，man 在这里是旧式用法，泛指“人”。
